Join the upcoming ‘Farmer Meet & Greet’ event at the Siouxland Prairie West Library in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, set for Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. CST. This free gathering is a fantastic opportunity for community members to connect directly with local farmers and learn about the rich variety of crops grown in the region.
The event will be held in the library's spacious meeting room located at 7630 W. 26th St., providing a comfortable setting for attendees to meet and engage with producers of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other specialty crops. This interaction aims to bridge the gap between local consumers and the agricultural community, enhancing knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and availability of local produce.
Visitors will have the chance to engage with several area farmers, gaining insights into their products, availability, and farming techniques. It’s an ideal venue for families looking to educate their children about farming and healthy eating or for anyone interested in supporting local agriculture and reducing their carbon footprint.
Additionally, the event will feature a sign-up opportunity for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs. These programs allow consumers to receive a box of fresh, in-season produce directly from local farms weekly throughout the growing season. It’s a perfect way to ensure your family enjoys fresh and nutritious produce directly from the source.
The ‘Farmer Meet & Greet’ also introduces the Dakota Fresh Food Hub, an innovative one-stop online shopping experience offering a wide range of products from local producers. This hub simplifies how consumers can support and interact with local farmers throughout the year.
Engaging activities such as ‘Farmer Bingo’ will add fun to the event, with attendees having the chance to win local products and learn more about the agricultural community in a festive setting.
This event is sponsored by the S.D. Specialty Producers Association and is supported by the Specialty Crop Block Grant program from the S.D. Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It represents a proactive approach to fostering closer ties between farmers and the broader community, emphasizing the importance of sustainable local agriculture and community health.
