The South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has opened applications for the E15 Fuel Tax Refund Program. Applications are accepted until January 30, 2026. The program is designed to support ethanol blended gasoline sales and encourage the use of alternative fuels in the state.
Licensed fuel marketers who meet alternative fuel compatibility requirements established by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources are eligible for the refund.
The program provides a refund of up to 5 cents per gallon for E15 gasoline sold and dispensed in South Dakota during the previous calendar year. Refunds are available for E15 gallons sold from 2025 through 2029, giving marketers several years to benefit from the program.
The E15 Fuel Tax Refund Program helps promote ethanol use, reduce carbon emissions, and support the agricultural economy by encouraging the use of locally produced ethanol in transportation fuels.
E15 fuel contains 15% ethanol, providing a cleaner-burning alternative to traditional gasoline. By offering a financial incentive, the state aims to increase E15 adoption among consumers and fuel retailers.
Program participants must submit an online application along with documentation verifying their sales and dispensing of E15 fuel in the eligible year. The application portal includes detailed instructions, eligibility requirements, and downloadable forms to ensure a smooth submission process.
To apply or learn more, visit the GOED E15 program webpage at sdgoed.com/partners/financing-incentives/e15-tax-refund. The program provides a practical way for South Dakota fuel marketers to benefit from ethanol adoption while supporting local agriculture and cleaner energy initiatives.
