The South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) is calling for applications for its annual scholarship program, set to support the educational endeavors of high school seniors and college students for the academic year 2025. The scholarships are designed for students whose parents or guardians have been members of the South Dakota Farm Bureau for at least two years.
With a commitment to fostering education in agriculture and community involvement, SDFB offers two types of scholarships: one focused on agriculture for students pursuing related degrees, and another aimed at students whose studies focus on broader community service and development.
This initiative provides financial assistance to students enrolled in either a traditional four-year college program or a two-year technical degree path.
Eligibility extends beyond incoming college freshmen. SDFB encourages applications from students at any stage of their college career, highlighting the organization's ongoing support throughout a student's academic journey. The intention is to nurture the next generation of leaders and professionals in agriculture and related sectors.
The scholarship fund was established in 2005 by former SDFB President Richard Ekstrum and his wife, Agnes, reflecting their longstanding commitment to agricultural education and community support. Richard Ekstrum's presidency from 1975 to 1995 was marked by advocacy for agricultural and rural communities, and this scholarship serves as part of his enduring legacy.
Applicants are required to demonstrate their involvement and commitment to agriculture or community service, aligning with the values and goals of the South Dakota Farm Bureau. The selection process is competitive, with awards based on academic achievement, involvement in Farm Bureau activities, and the potential for future impact in their chosen fields.
The deadline for scholarship applications is March 1, 2025. This provides ample time for interested students to prepare and submit their applications, ensuring they meet all necessary criteria. Full details, including application forms and submission guidelines, are available through the South Dakota Farm Bureau website.
This scholarship opportunity underscores the SDFB's dedication to supporting the educational aspirations of its members' families, thereby contributing to the vitality and sustainability of agriculture in South Dakota.
