The Dakota Farm Show will take place from January 7–9, 2025, at the USD DakotaDome in Vermillion, South Dakota. This highly anticipated agricultural trade show offers a mix of exhibits, displays, and educational opportunities for the farming community. SDSU Extension will host a series of informative seminars on January 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the club room.
The morning sessions will feature insights on forage research and cover crop management. Topics include:
- 9:30 a.m. – Annual forage research at SDSU Southeast Research Farm
- 10:00 a.m. – Managing soil health and grazing cover crops
- 10:50 a.m. – Grazing cover crops at Garretson
- 11:20 a.m. – Grazing rye in fall and spring
- 11:50 a.m. – Questions and discussion
In the afternoon, the focus shifts to pest management, disease updates, and soil fertility. Sessions include:
- 2:00 p.m. – Research on soy co-products in feedlot rations
- 2:25 p.m. – Insect pests of concern in Southeast South Dakota
- 3:05 p.m. – Corn and soybean disease update
- 3:30 p.m. – Effectiveness of slow-release fertilizers
These seminars provide valuable research-based knowledge to improve agricultural practices and address current challenges.
Topics span soil health, pest control, crop disease management, and fertilizer innovations. Attendees are encouraged to participate in discussions and gain practical solutions for their farming operations.
