SDSU Extension Celebrates First 4-H Gala Success

SDSU Extension Celebrates First 4-H Gala Success

By Scout Nelson

SDSU Extension successfully hosts its first-ever 4 H Gala on November 22, 2025, at the SDSU Alumni Center in Brookings. The event brought together supporters, families, and youth leaders to celebrate the impact of 4-H programs across South Dakota.

The gala theme, “Bright Lights, Bold Legacy,” reflected the strong history and future promise of 4-H youth development.

The evening featured live and silent auctions, entertainment by Dueling Pianos, and a special guest speaker. Callee Bauman-Wachter, a 4-H alumna and precision planting sales agent at the family-owned Bauman Agency in Huron, shared her journey and highlighted the lasting value of 4-H experiences. Her message focused on leadership, learning, and community service.

Funds raised during the gala support several important programs. These include the Family Consumer Sciences National Championship and Conference trip to San Antonio, SkillsX by 4-H, summer performing arts opportunities, camps and outdoor education, and the State 4-H Ambassador program. These activities help young people build skills, confidence, and responsibility.

The event also recognizesdoutstanding contributions. Delaney Zoss of Sanborn County received the Youth Service Award for her commitment to helping others.

Agtegra Cooperative, based in Aberdeen, received the Friend of 4-H Award for its continued support of youth programs and education.

Throughout the night, guests learned about achievements and creative projects led by 4-H members from across the state. Stories shared highlighted service, problem-solving, innovation, and leadership shown by South Dakota youth in their communities.

For more details about future events or youth development programs, families can visit the SDSU Extension 4-H web page . The successful event sets a strong foundation for future 4-H celebrations and continued support of youth growth statewide.
