The South Dakota Hall of Fame has officially announced its class of 2025, featuring ten individuals who have made lasting contributions in different fields. These honorees will be celebrated at a special ceremony in Chamberlain/Oacoma on September 12 and 13.
In the business category, Johnny Brockelsby is recognized for his legendary work in the tourism industry.
The general category includes several well-known figures:
- Michael Huether, former mayor of Sioux Falls
- Walter Schaefer, past executive director of McCrossan Boys Ranch
- David Wayne Snyder, a philanthropist and the founder of Pathways Spiritual Sanctuary
In the philanthropy category, two people are honored:
- Greg Carmon, known for his deep commitment to his community
- Dr. Mark Harlow, Chief Medical Officer at the Oyate Health Center
The professional category features:
- Robert A. Miller, former Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court
- Dr. Sophie Two Hawk, the first Native American to earn an M.D. from USD’s School of Medicine
In the agriculture category, Dr. John A. Ismay is celebrated as a trailblazing veterinarian who made a major impact in the field.
In politics, Jim Soyer is honored for his 44 years of dedicated public service.
The Hall of Fame adds a new Historical Figure category. The first inductee is Valentine McGillycuddy, who served as South Dakota’s first surgeon general.
