Virtual Training Helps Women in Agriculture

Virtual Training Helps Women in Agriculture

By Scout Nelson

South Dakota State University Extension hosts a Virtual Annie’s Project workshop series for women who work in agriculture. The program supports women who want to build strong farm businesses and make confident personal and business decisions. The series is open to participants from any state, but it focuses on South Dakota agriculture.

The workshop runs for six weeks in the winter season. Sessions take place on January 5, 12, 19, and 26, and on February 2 and 9. Each session runs online through Zoom from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Central Time. Participants join from their homes, making it easy to attend.

Annie’s Project creates a safe and friendly learning space where women share experiences and learn together. The program helps women understand how to manage farm records, communicate clearly, and plan for long-term family and business goals.

During the program, participants learn how to develop and organize financial records. They practice key communication skills that support clear talks with family members, partners, and service providers. The sessions also guide women to ask important questions about retirement and estate planning.

Marketing is another important topic. Participants expand their knowledge of both direct and commodity marketing methods. These lessons help women learn how to promote farm products, set fair prices, and reach new buyers.

The program also broadens general agriculture knowledge. Women learn about farm trends, business risks, and simple ways to improve daily operations. Another focus area is family caregiving in rural communities. This helps families prepare for caregiving needs while maintaining strong farm businesses.

The registration fee for the full six-week series is $50. Registration is required by January 3. All participants are encouraged to attend all sessions to gain full program benefits.

Virtual Annie’s Project supports women by building skills, confidence, and strong farm communities. Visit Eventbrite to register.
