4-H Launches Comprehensive Furbearer Education Program
South Dakota Ag Connection - 11/15/2019
The SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Development program recently announced a partnership with South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks and the South Dakota Trappers Association to launch a new, comprehensive furbearer education program for youth. This
program, called ETHICS SD, will educate youth on the basics of ecology, trapping, history, identification, conservation and stewardship. Building problem solving and public speaking skills are also key components.
ETHICS SD was launched at the South Dakota Trappers Association's Fall Rendezvous on Sept. 14, at the Tripp County 4-H Grounds in Winner. A total of 50 youth participants began the program in October, which will go through April 2020.
Participants are provided the necessary equipment for use during the program. The next cohort will begin in fall of 2020 and youth are encouraged to be at least 10 years old to participate.
For additional information about ETHICS SD, please contact Katherine Jaeger, SDSU Extension Youth Outdoor Education Field Specialist, by email or 1.605.782.3290.
