S.D. Corn and Soybean Harvests Nearly on Average Pace

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 29% very short, 49% short, 21% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 27% very short, 49% short, 23% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Corn condition rated 12% very poor, 18% poor, 31% fair, 34% good, and 5% excellent. Corn dented was 95%, near 98% last year and 92% for the five-year average. Mature was 60%, behind 67% last year, but ahead of 54% average. Harvested was 8%, near 9% last year and 5% average.

Soybean condition rated 6% very poor, 18% poor, 37% fair, 37% good, and 2% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 82%, behind 90% last year, but ahead of 76% average. Harvested was 9%, behind 15% last year, and near 11% average.

Winter wheat planted was 52%, near 54% last year and 50% average. Emerged was 18%, ahead of 4% last year and 10% average.

Sorghum condition rated 4% very poor, 27% poor, 26% fair, 43% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 97%, near 100% last year, but ahead of 90% average. Mature was 60%, near 63% last year, but ahead of 42% average. Harvested was 12%, near 16% last year, but ahead of 7% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 1%, near 2% last year, and equal to average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 31% very poor, 27% poor, 28% fair, 13% good, and 1% excellent.
