Farm families looking to improve their planning can attend a helpful workshop focused on health care and insurance. SDSU Extension is hosting this event on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the SDSU Extension Watertown Regional Center in Watertown, South Dakota.
This interactive session will teach farm families how to include health and health insurance in their farm plans. Each family is different, so the workshop gives practical tools to support various needs. Topics will include how to manage health care as a part of farm risk planning and how to fit insurance costs into the farm or household budget.
Attendees will leave with helpful tips to share with their families and new questions to discuss with tax experts, legal advisors, or farm business professionals. This event is great for those planning next year’s farm budget or dealing with family or health changes.
The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with a meal. At 6:00 p.m., experts will speak about how health care and insurance affect farm planning. At 7:15 p.m., a panel will talk about health issues and insurance challenges specific to South Dakota.
The workshop costs $20 per adult or $50 per family. Meals and childcare will be provided to help make attendance easier. Registration is required by August 6.
This event is supported by USDA North Central Region SARE and SDSU Extension. It is part of a wider effort to support farm success by looking at topics that often get overlooked—like health. With better planning, farmers can protect their health and their farms.
