South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension is organizing two spring wheat variety field tours to help producers choose the best wheat for the next growing season. These free tours take place. The first tour starts near Agar, and the second begins. MT near Quinn. Registration is not required to attend.
The tours are part of the SDSU Extension Crop Performance Testing program, which evaluates spring wheat varieties at several locations across South Dakota. All wheat growers, agronomists, and agricultural professionals are welcome to attend.
Attendees will have the opportunity to walk through a variety of plots, see how each variety performs in real conditions, and learn about important factors like disease resistance, standability, maturity, and yield potential. These traits are important when choosing wheat that fits specific field conditions and reduces farming risk.
Each wheat variety comes with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Selecting the right one can make a big difference in crop success and farm income. During the tours, SDSU Extension specialists will share updates on current trial results and provide helpful tips for selecting varieties for the upcoming season.
The tours also give farmers a chance to meet and talk with each other and with SDSU Extension staff. These conversations can help build knowledge, answer questions, and improve future farming decisions.
