Wall Meat Processing Expands Operations to Meet Growing Demand
South Dakota Ag Connection - 05/25/2023

Following the acquisition of a $3.3 million grant from the USDA, Wall Meat Processing, a regional meat processing business with locations in Wall and Rapid City, plans to expand its operations. The business intends to serve the demands of ranchers, producers, and individual clients in the area in light of the recent rise in demand for regional meat processors.

Wall Meat Processing is expanding with the assistance of a USDA grant to construct a larger processing facility in New Underwood with a projected capacity of 4,000 head per year, providing improved facilities and high-quality ready-to-eat products.

Wall Meat Processing is more than just a butcher shop and processing plant; it actively encourages the consumption of local meat and works with organizations and companies that provide community outreach. The business maintains close relationships with groups like the Club for Boys, the 25 schools participating in the Beef to School programme, Meals on Wheels, and numerous neighbourhood eateries. To aid in the education of future meat processors, Wall Meat Processing has partnered with Western Dakota Technical College.

The business has also forged alliances with six Black Hills Big D petrol stations, where they have sold nearly 25 head of local beef successfully since Thanksgiving. This indicates their dedication to ensuring that local residents can access beef that is sourced locally and are aware of its provenance.

Within the next month or two, Wall Meat Processing hopes to start ground on the new building. The company hopes to get the plant operational in 16 to 18 months. In addition to meeting the increasing need for local meat processing, this expansion will benefit nearby ranchers, farmers, and consumers while also advancing the local economy.
