Boadwine Dairy is opening its doors to the public for an open house event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 16. The free, family-friendly event will feature tours of the modern dairy farm, including the milking parlor, baby calves and the new addition to the farm's maternity barn. A free lunch and ice cream shakes will be served.
The open house will also feature discussions and demonstrations of practices focused on sustainability, including a new partnership between the farm and Brightmark Energy to capture renewable natural gas (RNG) from cow manure.
Boadwine Dairy along with Bel Brands and Land O'Lakes, was recognized with one of seven U.S. Dairy Sustainability Awards presented by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy. The "Outstanding Supply Chain Sustainability" award recognizes the multi-year program of farms to adopt sustainable farming practices and reduce their environmental footprint.
"We are excited to return to Boadwine Dairy for an open house to share not only how today's farmers care for cows and calves, but also the practices they are putting in place to protect our land and water resources for generations to come," said Heidi Zwinger, outreach director for Ag United.
