South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension invites farmers and ranchers to join their free monthly webinar series called Cattle HQ Live. These online sessions aim to help cattle producers improve herd health, productivity, and profits through better cow nutrition and management practices.
The webinars take place on the third Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. CST. Each session features a new topic and a speaker from SDSU’s beef team. Participants only need to register once to attend all sessions and will receive a Zoom link and reminders before each event.
This month’s webinar focuses on cow nutrition and herd management during dry weather conditions. Erin DeHaan, Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Beef Specialist, leads the discussion.
She shares ways to manage beef cows when drought affects pasture and feed availability. Her talk covers how to meet the nutrient needs of cows to maintain their health and ensure strong calf performance, even during tough times.
Understanding cow nutrition during poor weather is key to herd success. Poor feeding during drought can lead to lower milk production, poor breeding results, and weak calves.
DeHaan explains how early planning and smart feeding choices can prevent these problems and help cows stay healthy and productive longer.
The series is supported by other SDSU experts, including Julie Walker, Professor and Extension Beef Specialist, who helps coordinate the event. Both Walker and DeHaan are available for more information and questions.
