Discover the All-New Dakota Events Complex at this Year's State Fair

The South Dakota State Fair, from August 31 to September 4, is a rich tradition that showcases South Dakotans' talents, connects with peers, and offers top-notch entertainment. As Candi Briley, the fair's assistant manager, explains, it represents the signature South Dakota State Fair experience.

The Dakota Events Complex (DEX) is set to open this year, replacing the Open Class Beef Complex, which was destroyed in a fire in 2020. The DEX will host beef shows and host livestock and rodeo events, making it a prominent fixture at the fairground.

South Dakota State Fair serves as a celebratory platform, especially for the youth. The fair is a culmination of the year-long efforts of 4-H and FFA students. Candi Briley equates their participation to a state championship, honoring their dedication to static projects and livestock showcases.

In addition to youth endeavors, the fair offers open classes where individuals of all ages display their proficiency in livestock, gardening, and crafts. A key attraction, the FFA Ag Adventure Center, educates visitors about modern farming and traces the journey of food from farm to table.

The fairgrounds will also have a colorful look, thanks to the 'Trash to Treasure' contest, an innovative event this year where trash cans get a makeover with fair-related themes. Visitors can also expect some modern amusement with a virtual reality gaming truck and two new rides introduced midway.

Briley emphasizes the community's significance of the fair as a gathering hub, a much-awaited annual event. Admission fees have slightly increased this year, but tickets can be purchased online at sdstatefair.com.

Visitors can access the event guide or the official South Dakota State Fair app on major app stores.
