The Managing Soil: Maximizing Profit Meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Wagner Movie Theater Banquet Room in Wagner, South Dakota.

The event aims to help farmers and agricultural professionals learn more about improving soil health and increasing profitability through better soil management practices. The Southeast Research Farm Annual Business Meeting will also be held during the event from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This event will focus on educational presentations about reducing tillage, rotating crops more effectively, improving soil microbiology, and incorporating cattle grazing into the use of annual forages and cover crops.

These methods can significantly boost soil health and long-term agricultural success. Certified crop advisors attending the event can earn continuing education credits.

The agenda for the meeting includes several insightful sessions. After registration at 9:15 a.m., there will be a session at 9:45 a.m. on tillage, crop rotation, and soil health. This will be followed by a presentation at 11:00 a.m. on local solutions to enhance beneficial soil microbes.

After lunch, the Southeast Farm Board will hold a brief meeting, followed by a presentation at 1:00 p.m. about managing soil, crops, and cattle for profitability. At 2:00 p.m., there will be a session on grazing annual forages and cover crops, followed by a panel discussion at 3:00 p.m.

The cost to attend the meeting is $25, but it is free for Southeast Farm members. Registration is required, and interested participants can complete the form available. For more information, contact SDSU Extension specialists.
