Wetonka farmer Sergeant Cameron Lux, who was deployed to assist the border patrol in 2021, ensured the farm's order before his deployment, allowing his wife, Jessica, to focus on their son.
Lux's time at the southern border was challenging, witnessing the heartbreaking plight of women and children escaping violence. Despite this, Lux remained committed to serving in the South Dakota Army National Guard, 200th Engineer Company.
Lux, a former National Guard member, aspires to serve as both the President and South Dakota's Governor. His upbringing in a farm environment shaped his values and resilience. Lux's duties in the 200th Engineer Company involve building bridges for military movements, as a boat operator and fire team leader.
But beyond duty, it's the deep bonds, the “brotherhood”, that Lux cherishes the most. These military friendships, he notes, are akin to a second family.
Balancing his roles as a farmer, insurance agent, Guardsman, and a family man might be challenging, but the benefits, like college payment and top-tier health insurance, are invaluable. And as his family grows – with a third child on the way – so does Lux's respect for his wife's support and sacrifices.
For those considering the National Guard, Lux offers advice and open conversation, emphasizing its value as an excellent steppingstone into adulthood.
