Grady Gullickson's journey into ruminant nutrition started with his 4-H and FFA sheep projects in Flandreau, South Dakota. His interest in livestock feed management led him to pursue a graduate degree in ruminant nutrition at North Dakota State University. Gullickson, a 2022 South Dakota State University graduate, aims to help livestock producers optimize feed efficiency and profitability.
“We are in an age where lots of people are disconnected from agriculture,” said Gullickson, appreciating the support from organizations like Farmers Union and businesses like Traveler’s Motor Club.
Gullickson's academic path, targeting a master's degree by 2024 and considering a Ph.D., is fueled by his desire to return to South Dakota and assist livestock producers. His goal is to develop efficient and cost-effective feed rations, potentially working for a livestock nutrition company.
The South Dakota Farmers Union and Traveler's Motor Club are supporting Gullickson's educational goals, emphasizing the importance of innovation and research in the future success of family farms and ranches. They also emphasize the value of investing in the next generation to preserve rural America.
Gullickson's scholarship of $2,500 underlines the commitment of both organizations to foster the future of agriculture, recognizing the critical role of education and research in sustaining and advancing the industry.
