Governor Rhoden Tours South Dakota Small Town Success Stories

Governor Rhoden Tours South Dakota Small Town Success Stories

By Scout Nelson

Governor Larry Rhoden is set to visit the towns of Philip, Wall, and Midland as part of his Open for Opportunity tour. This special trip highlights the strengths and values of South Dakota’s rural communities.

A key part of the visit includes a stop at 1880 Town, one of South Dakota’s oldest and most iconic historical sites. Located near Midland, 1880 Town represents the hardworking spirit of early homesteaders. Governor Rhoden plans to honor the history and values they left behind—values like determination, personal responsibility, and freedom—which continue to guide the state today.

In Philip, the Governor will tour Scotchman Industries, a company that builds hydraulic ironworkers and saw machines. As a strong supporter of local manufacturing, Rhoden is proud to promote products that are Made in South Dakota.

The tour also includes a stop at Wall Meats Processing, a small business that benefited from state efforts to support meat processors during the Noem-Rhoden Administration. As former Ag Ambassador and Interim Agriculture Secretary, Rhoden played a big role in helping local processors like this grow.

Tourism is another highlight of the day, with a visit to the famous Wall Drug Museum. This spot is known around the country and is an important part of South Dakota’s economy and identity.

To finish the day, Governor Rhoden will attend the Wall Celebration Days Rodeo. As a lifelong rancher from the West River region, he enjoys connecting with local ranchers and families who represent the heart of the state.
