SDSU hosts precision livestock tech day in December

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension is excited to announce a Precision Livestock Management Field Day, scheduled for December 8, 2023, at the Cow-Calf Education and Research Facility in Brookings.

From 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities. The location, 2901 Western Ave., Brookings, will be the hub for presentations, interactive demonstrations of precision livestock technologies, and a tour of the SDSU Cow-Calf Education and Research Facility. Participants will also enjoy a light breakfast and lunch during the event.

Logan Vandermark, an SDSU Extension Precision Livestock Field Specialist, emphasizes the significance of this event. It's a chance for attendees to witness firsthand how cutting-edge technology is revolutionizing beef cattle production. The Field Day will also preview technologies to be featured in next summer’s precision livestock field school.

The event will feature various SDSU Extension specialists, including Logan Vandermark, Kaylee Wheeler, Madison Kovarna, and Sydney Vanderhoff. They will cover topics such as precision feeding and weighing systems, the role of the cattle industry in South Dakota, and ongoing research at the facility.

Tickets for this informative event are priced at $30, and prior registration is necessary. To register, interested individuals can visit the SDSU Extension Events page and search for "precision".

For further details, Logan Vandermark is available for contact.

This event promises to be a valuable experience for those interested in the intersection of livestock management and technology.
