South Dakota Corn Harvest Well Ahead of Average



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 46% very short, 41% short, 13% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 42% very short, 42% short, 16% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Corn harvested was 91%, ahead of 80% last year, and well ahead of 66% for the five-year average.

Winter wheat condition rated 9% very poor, 25% poor, 40% fair, 26% good, and 0% excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 75%, well behind 95% last year, and behind 92% average.

Sorghum harvested was 89%, near 91% last year, but ahead of 76% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 84%, ahead of 69% last year, and well ahead of 58% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 36% very poor, 31% poor, 23% fair, 10% good, and 0% excellent.
