South Dakota Soybean Checkoff Contributes $10,000 to 'Raise The SHED' Fundraising Campaign

The South Dakota Soybean Checkoff has committed $10,000 to support the 'Raise The SHED' Fundraising Campaign by the South Dakota State Fair Foundation. The primary purpose of The SHED is to serve as a show arena and educational center, offering interactive learning opportunities about the sheep industry, agriculture, and agricultural history of the state.

Jason Frerichs, Chairman of the South Dakota Soybean Checkoff, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, emphasizing the shared goal of enhancing opportunities for farmers and ranchers while nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders. The SHED will not only showcase the sheep industry but also provide a venue for various livestock events. Additionally, it will foster a collaborative environment where youth can work together, learn, and take pride in their accomplishments.

The fundraising campaign aims to raise $3 million toward the total project cost of approximately $8 million. Donors will have various opportunities to contribute at different levels, including the chance to have naming rights for the show arena and sponsorships on the donor wall.

To make way for THE SHED, the former Open Class Sheep Barn has been demolished. Currently, project planning and design are underway, and a groundbreaking ceremony is anticipated to take place during the 2024 State Fair.

For further information about the project or any inquiries regarding the 'Raise The SHED' campaign, please reach out to Peggy Besch, South Dakota State Fairgrounds Manager, at 605-353-7340 or peggy.besch@state.sd.us. You may also contact Larry Tidemann, Fundraising Campaign Chairman, at 605-690-8353.
