South Dakota's 100th session targets rural issues

The 100th South Dakota legislative session is set to commence on January 14 and will span 38 legislative days. During this period, the Center for Rural Affairs will closely monitor and track policy developments that are vital to enhancing the quality of life in rural areas and align with the goal of fostering vibrant rural communities.

This session's focus areas include:

• Renewable Energy: As wind and solar projects continue to gain momentum, the Center advocates for policies that not only promote the development of renewable energy but also consider the needs and concerns of local communities. This dual approach ensures that progress in renewable technology benefits everyone involved.
• Agriculture and Conservation: The Center is dedicated to shaping farm policies that help maintain family-owned farms on the land while safeguarding our natural resources—soil and water.
