S.D. Corn and Soybeans Progressing Ahead of Average

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 37% short, 51% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 10% very short, 33% short, 57% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Corn condition rated 4% very poor, 6% poor, 22% fair, 60% good, and 8% excellent. Corn dented was 88%, well ahead of 46% last year, and ahead of 74% for the five-year average. Mature was 47%, well ahead of 5% last year and 21% average. Harvested was 1%.

Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 7% poor, 25% fair, 58% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 61%, well ahead of 7% last year and 41% average. Harvested was 1%, equal to average.

Winter wheat planted was 20%, ahead of 4% last year and 14% average.

Sorghum condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 35% fair, 59% good, and 2% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 93%, well ahead of 63% last year, and ahead of 75% average. Mature was 32%, well ahead of 5% last year, and ahead of 14% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 3% very poor, 23% poor, 44% fair, 29% good, and 1% excellent.
