'Go to Mines' Open Houses Oct. 19 and Nov. 9
South Dakota Ag Connection - 10/09/2019

South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will host hundreds of prospective students during two upcoming Go to Mines events.

High school students and their families are invited to SD Mines on Oct. 19 and Nov 9 to tour departments, residence halls and other facilities and to meet faculty and current students. The in-depth campus visits are open to students of all ages, particularly juniors and seniors who are exploring their college options.

Students attending Go to Mines who will enroll in the Fall of 2020 can also take part in "On the Spot" admissions decisions. The process allows prospective freshmen to leave at the end of the day with an official acceptance letter. About 80% of students who apply to Mines are admitted; the requirements for admission are here. Part of SD Mines mission is to educate the next generation of scientists and engineers. The university has a history of turning average high school students into highly successful STEM leaders. Prospective freshman who want to take part in on the spot admission process should bring a sealed high school transcript (with ACT/SAT scores) and Mines officials will help them with the application.

SD Mines, a science and engineering research institution offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, is consistently ranked among the top returns on investment nationally for a college education. The job placement rate is 97 percent, with an average early-career salary for graduates of over $63,500. The university enrolls approximately 2,600 students with a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1.

Through the many labs, research projects and competitive teams, students participate in rich hands-on learning experiences beginning their freshman year. SD Mines is also known for its specialized internship program.

Pre-registration is encouraged but not required for Go to Mines events. Prospective students and their families may pre-register at www.sdsmt.edu/visit.
