Hobo Day Committee Announced

The Hobo Day Committee has announced its 2021 committee. The Hobo Day Committee is a student-led organization comprised of 18 South Dakota State University students and led by the Grand Pooba. Marie Robbins, from Elkton, is serving as the 2021 Grand Pooba. The committee has marketing, parade and events teams and each team is led by an assistant pooba.

The marketing team, creates and manages the branding for Hobo Day, is led by Marketing Assistant Pooba Kayla Gullickson, a graduate student from Brookings. The members who comprise the marketing team are:

- Blake Pulse, a sophomore from Salem, is the apparel and merchandising coordinator;

- Tessa Holien, a freshman from Watertown, will serve as the social media coordinator;

- Eliza Carlson, a sophomore from Paynesville, Minn., is the community outreach coordinator; and

- Hannah Bortnem, a senior from Anoka, Minn., is serving as the campus outreach coordinator and is a returning committee member.

The events team plans and facilities all the events that take place during Hobo Week. The team is led by Event Assistant Pooba Colton Riley, a junior from Rapid City. Members include:

- Taylor Buck, a sophomore from Mitchell, coordinates the xix- and one-month clubs;

- Hannah Owens, a freshman from Redfield, is the Rally at the Rails coordinator;

- Lexy McElroy, a freshman from Spearfish, is serving as the Bumover and hobo gear prep night coordinator; and

- Kelsie Ehrenberg, a sophomore from Ortonville, Minnesota, is the Bum-a-Meal coordinator.

A junior from Sioux Falls, Regen Wiederrich is the parade assistant pooba. On that team is:

- Emily Walton, a junior from Hinton, Iowa, is the community entries coordinator;

- T.J. Bigge, a junior from Parkston, is serving as the campus entries coordinator;

- Ben Connor, a freshman from Winfred, is the bands coordinator;

- Jackson McFaden, freshman from Milbank, is serving as the transportation coordinator;

- Megan Linke, a freshman from Woonsocket, is the security coordinator; and

- Mary Dybedahl, a senior from Colton, is serving as the dignitaries' coordinator.

"We are incredibly excited to have a new group of SDSU students working to bring Hobo Day to the campus and community this fall. We are ready to start working toward the biggest one-day event in the Dakotas," Robbins said.

The 2021 Hobo Day Committee meets weekly to plan the 109th SDSU homecoming tradition. Hobo Day will be Oct. 23. To find more information visit SDState.edu/HoboDay.
