S.D. Sunflower, Sorghum, Corn Harvests Ahead of Average

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 22% very short, 38% short, 39% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 36% very short, 32% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Corn condition rated 15% very poor, 25% poor, 33% fair, 25% good, and 2% excellent. Corn mature was 94%, equal to last year, and ahead of 80% for the five-year average. Harvested was 33%, near 36% last year, but ahead of 17% average.

Soybean condition rated 10% very poor, 27% poor, 39% fair, 24% good, and 0% excellent. Soybeans harvested was 69%, behind 79% last year, but well ahead of 42% average.

Winter wheat planted was 90%, ahead of 85% last year and 82% average. Emerged was 42%, behind 51% last year and 53% average.

Sorghum condition rated 14% very poor, 30% poor, 36% fair, 20% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum mature was 96%, near 98% last year, but well ahead of 69% average. Harvested was 55%, near 57% last year, but well ahead of 26% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 23%, ahead of 17% last year and 10% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 53% very poor, 32% poor, 13% fair, 2% good, and 0% excellent.
