South Dakota’s Lt. Governor Larry Rhoden and Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Secretary Hunter Roberts are in Mexico, marking a significant stride in fortifying trading relationships. They’re accompanied by representatives from notable companies like Advanced Sunflower, Inc., Agropur US, and North Start Liquids, along with others, all eager to partake in business-to-business matchmaking meetings.

Organized by South Dakota Trade, this mission is pivotal, spotlighting Mexico’s thriving economy and diverse market as a golden opportunity for South Dakota businesses. The state already enjoys a flourishing trade relationship with Mexico, its second-largest trade partner, contributing to an export value of approximately $600 million in 2022 and supporting over 13,000 jobs in South Dakota.

The delegation is utilizing State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant funds from the U.S. Small Business Administration, ensuring a well-supported venture. South Dakota Trade is collaborating with various councils and U.S. Embassy officials in Mexico to optimize the experience for the delegation.

Coinciding with the Food Tech Summit & Expo, one of Latin America’s major food & beverage trade shows, the delegation has a unique opportunity to showcase South Dakota’s premium agricultural products to a vast audience. With 18,000+ buyers from over 20 countries, the event is a hub for potential growth and relationships.

Luke J. Lindberg, President & CEO of South Dakota Trade, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm and responsibility in connecting willing buyers with sellers, emphasizing the importance of this week’s engagements.
