Explore ag data by zip code

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has released the much-anticipated 2022 Census of Agriculture data tabulated by zip code. This new feature allows agricultural stakeholders to access detailed data at a highly localized level through the Quick Stats tool, NASS’s online data query platform.

Joseph Parsons, NASS Administrator, expressed enthusiasm about the new data access points, stating that local level data accessibility empowers producers, agribusinesses, community planners, and policymakers.

This detailed breakdown can be accessed by congressional district, watershed, county, and now by five-digit postal zip code, which is crucial for targeted agricultural planning and advocacy.

This release is part of NASS's broader effort to provide comprehensive agricultural data to the public. Earlier this month, NASS published the 2023 Irrigation and Water Management Survey results, with the Census of Aquaculture data set to release on December 16.

These publications build on the extensive data already available from the 2022 Census of Agriculture, which includes market values, state and county profiles, and demographic insights.

Future releases this season will include Highlights publications, which delve into producer demographics, commodity specifics, and other key topics. These documents are accessible on the NASS website and offer a deeper understanding of U.S. agricultural trends.

Additionally, looking ahead, NASS is preparing for the 2027 Census of Agriculture by soliciting suggestions for content changes and encouraging new producers to register for future censuses and surveys. This proactive approach ensures that future censuses will continue to reflect the evolving landscape of American agriculture.
