South Dakota State University has announced its 2025 Research Station Field Days, taking place from June through mid-September at various locations across the state. These events will highlight local farming practices and research tailored to specific regions of South Dakota.
“South Dakota is unique in the Midwest for how varied the different regions of the state are, especially when it comes to what types of production agriculture thrive in those areas,” said John Blanton, associate dean of research and director of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.
Each field day will offer guided tours led by SDSU researchers and extension staff. Topics include weed management, crop variety trials, virtual fencing, small grains breeding, conservation, and more. Events are free, but registration is encouraged for planning purposes.
Field day highlights include -
- West River Research Farm (June 11, Sturgis) - Demos on virtual fencing for sheep, drone crop monitoring, and livestock tech.
- Dakota Lakes Research Farm (June 26, Pierre) - Wheat and oat variety trials and pulse crop evaluation.
- Southeast Research Farm (July 8, Beresford) - Focus on grain crops, conservation, and nutrient management. Ice cream and family evening included.
