South Dakota launches 2023 community forestry grant

South Dakota launches 2023 community forestry grant

In a bid to champion community forestry, South Dakota has announced its 2023 Community Forestry Grant program. This initiative is tailored to support communities in addressing distinct forestry challenges and underlining the significance of trees in urban settings.

The guidelines for this grant, along with the application form, can be accessed here. Eligibility extends to communities, tribes, and non-profit organizations, but they must adhere to the Community Forestry Challenge Grants' guidelines.

The funds can be channeled towards various tree-related endeavors on public lands or within public right of ways. These include but aren't limited to availing professional tree services, assessments, existing tree care, tree inventories, establishing urban food forests, educational efforts, and even planting new trees.

There's a catch: communities are expected to match the funds awarded, either through cash or in-kind contributions.

Those seeking more details can get in touch with John Hartland at 605-933-9650 or via email at John.Hartland@state.sd.us.

This initiative not only promotes greener communities but also demonstrates the state's commitment to sustainable urban environments.
