South Dakota State University Extension proudly announces the appointment of Sarah Sellars as its new Specialist in Sustainable Farm and Food Systems. Sellars, also an assistant professor, will be stationed at the SDSU campus in Brookings.
Sellars, a graduate of the University of Illinois, Purdue University, and the University of Illinois, has a deep connection to agriculture and has a bachelor's degree in agricultural and consumer economics, a master's in agricultural economics, and a doctorate in agricultural and applied economics.
Before joining SDSU Extension, Sellars played a key role in developing "Carbon Markets 101," and is now at SDSU Extension, researching sustainable farming and food systems in South Dakota. She will focus on the impacts of sustainable agriculture practices and the potential benefits of ecosystem market opportunities for local farmers and ranchers.
Sandy Smart, SDSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Senior Program Leader/professor, expressed enthusiasm for Sellars' appointment. He highlighted the importance of her role in evaluating the economics of sustainable agriculture and addressing key questions about the financial viability and ecosystem services of sustainable farming practices.
Sellars' expertise and passion for sustainable agriculture promise to bring innovative solutions and new opportunities to South Dakota's agricultural sector, further enhancing its sustainability and economic viability.
