USDA agencies unite at black hills stock show for informative sessions

By Scout Nelson

The Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, South Dakota, will feature a special gathering of four key agencies of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on January 31, 2024.  This event, scheduled from 10:00AM to 6:30PM MST, promises a day filled with expert advice and information valuable for anyone in the agricultural sector.

Participating agencies include the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Farm Service Agency (FSA), Risk Management Agency (RMA), and Rural Development (RD). They will present a series of topic-specific sessions designed to educate and assist attendees on various aspects of farming and rural development.

The schedule is packed with topics like resources for beginning farmers and specialty growers, youth and beginner loans, production risk tools, utilizing USDA programs on Tribal Trust land, and insights into the Inflation Reduction Act's impact on financial assistance programs.  Also, topics such as the Rural Energy for America Program and the Value-Added Producer Grant will be discussed.

This open house event at Room 206 of The Monument invites attendees to engage directly with USDA experts. It's an excellent opportunity for one-on-one interactions and to have specific questions answered. For those who can't make to a particular session, experts will be available throughout the day for additional queries.

For more details or special accommodations, attendees are encouraged to visit the South Dakota NRCS website or contact Gail Gullickson at gail.gullickson@usda.gov and Darrel DuVall at darrel.duvall@usda.gov.
