South Dakotans Get Just Over 5 Days for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 0 short, 66 adequate, and 34 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 1 short, 67 adequate, and 32 surplus.

Corn condition rated 3 percent very poor, 7 poor, 27 fair, 43 good, and 20 excellent. Corn mature was 95 percent, behind 100 for both last year and the five-year average. Harvested was 27 percent, well behind 56 last year and 66 average.

Soybeans harvested was 82 percent, behind 90 last year and 96 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 2 poor, 25 fair, 60 good, and 11 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 91 percent, ahead of 83 last year, and near 90 average.

Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 21 fair, 66 good, and 10 excellent. Sorghum mature was 98 percent, equal to both last year and average. Harvested was 47 percent, behind 59 last year, and well behind 76 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 28 percent, behind 41 last year, and well behind 62 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 4 poor, 24 fair, 43 good, and 27 excellent.
