Great American Farmers Market Announced on National Mall

Great American Farmers Market Announced on National Mall

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins has announced the launch of the Great American Farmers Market to be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from August 3–8, 2025. This special event celebrates America’s 250th anniversary and will coincide with National Farmers Market Week.

Organized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the market will feature farmers and vendors from across all 50 states. It will serve as a major platform for producers to showcase their goods and connect directly with consumers in the heart of the nation’s capital.

“There is no greater celebration of America’s legacy than through American agriculture! Farmers helped found our nation and for centuries have diligently passed down the craft of feeding, fueling, and clothing their fellow patriots,” said Secretary Rollins.

The event aims to honor the nation’s deep agricultural roots, inspire new generations of farmers, and “Make America Healthy Again” by promoting access to fresh, local foods.

USDA’s continued presence on the National Mall reinforces its original mission as the “People’s Department,” established by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Great American Farmers Market will take place on August 3, 2025. Programming throughout the week will include educational events, demonstrations, and opportunities for public engagement.

Eligible vendors include farmers, ranchers, bakers, meat and dairy producers, beverage makers, fishermen, and food concessionaires. Vendors can apply through the USDA website, which also provides information about market hours and event schedules.

This event builds on USDA’s long history of supporting local food systems, including its market that has run since 1995 in the D.C. area. The expanded national market highlights USDA's efforts to prioritize small family farms and rural communities under President’s “Growing America” vision.
