SDSU Extension Hosts Beef 20/20 Training Event

By Scout Nelson

SDSU Extension will host Beef 20/20, a hands-on educational workshop designed for beef industry stakeholders and agriculture educators. The program takes place from January 6 to January 8 at the SDSU Animal Science Complex in Brookings South Dakota. The event welcomes participants aged eighteen and older who want to better understand how cattle management affects beef quality and yield.

Beef 20/20 focuses on practical learning and real-world skills. The program helps participants connect management decisions made on the farm with results seen in beef products. Through guided activities and expert instruction, attendees gain clear knowledge they can use in their own operations or teaching roles.

The workshop includes several hands-on learning sessions. Topics cover live animal evaluation, carcass evaluation, and hands-on beef cutting. Participants also hear from industry speakers who share insights on beef production and quality. These sessions help explain how genetics feeding handling and processing all play a role in final beef outcomes.

The event is hosted at the SDSU Animal Science Complex located at 1097 North Campus Drive in Brookings. Christina Bakker, Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Meat Science Specialist, serves as the main contact for the program. Her role ensures the workshop remains focused on science-based education and industry needs.

Registration for Beef 20/20 costs two hundred fifty dollars. The fee includes one lunch, one supper, break refreshments, and a binder with program materials. Registration is required by December twenty two two thousand twenty-five. Participants must register in advance to secure a spot.

Overall, Beef 20/20 offers a valuable learning experience for anyone involved in beef production or education. The program supports stronger understanding, better decision making, and improved beef quality across the industry. Registration is Available on Eventbrite.
