Beef Producers Invited to Learn Advanced Breeding Practices

Beef Producers Invited to Learn Advanced Breeding Practices

By Scout Nelson

Reproductive efficiency plays a major role in the profitability of cattle operations. To help producers enhance breeding success, the Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle Symposium is set to take place September 17-18 at the D & N Event Center in North Platte, Nebraska.

The event brings together beef producers, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss practical and science-based strategies for reproductive management. Attendees will learn about topics such as the importance of early conception, how bull nutrition affects fertility, and designing effective vaccination programs. Leading experts will also share insights on both current and emerging reproductive technologies.

In addition to presentations, the symposium encourages interaction between participants and speakers, creating an environment for knowledge sharing and problem-solving. Producers will have the chance to ask questions, explore new ideas, and connect with others facing similar challenges in cattle breeding.

The SDSU Extension Beef Team will also participate in the event, networking with other experts and learning the latest in reproductive management. SDSU Extension regularly hosts Artificial Insemination (AI) schools across the state, helping producers develop skills and gain deeper knowledge in breeding practices.

These schools highlight that reproductive success requires more than just breeding, it also depends on proper nutrition, health programs, and efficient breeding systems.

To support attendance, SDSU Extension is offering free transportation from several locations in South Dakota. A pre-conference tour is planned for September 16, giving attendees an additional learning opportunity. Space for the tour is limited, and participants must register for the tour, symposium, and accommodations separately.
