According to a Crop Watcher from Northeastern South Dakota, the corn and soybean crops are looking healthy and developing well. Despite not receiving any rain in the last few weeks, the crops are thriving. The farmer mentioned that while they could use some rain, everyone else in the area also needs it.
Recently, the farmer attended a Corn Congress event in Washington, D.C., where the National Corn Growers Association set goals and discussed important issues. South Dakota Corn members had productive meetings with the state's delegation and the FSA administrator, who is from South Dakota.
During the event, they focused on updating base acres in the farm bill, especially for South Dakota, where many acres were converted from pasture grounds. Crop insurance and an emergency grain storage system were also discussed, which became a concern after severe storms damaged grain bins across the Midwest the previous year.
Back on the farm, the farmer was busy finishing corn and soybean contracts. They had a few days of spraying ahead to manage weed issues and their trucking business was actively hauling machinery.
Looking forward, the farmer planned to attend the AgPhD field day, where they could learn more about different fungicides and traits to enhance their farming practices.
