Cut Flower Farm Tour Invites Growers to Explore Ag Tourism

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota Specialty Producers Association (SDSPA) and South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension invite farmers, gardeners, and nature lovers to attend a special Cut Flower Farm Tour on July 25, 2025.

This free, full-day event offers a great opportunity for those interested in flower farming, vegetable growing, or agritourism. It features visits to two flower farms and one pumpkin patch in Alpena, Woonsocket, and Forestburg, South Dakota.

The tour begins at 9 a.m. at Eden Acres, located at 21614 398th Ave., Alpena. From there, participants will travel to Swensen Pumpkin Patch in Woonsocket and end the day at The Garage at Forestburg Flower Farm.

The addresses for the second and third stops will be shared with participants during the first visit. The tour wraps up by 3 p.m., and lunch will be provided.

Along the way, expert growers, SDSPA leaders, and SDSU Extension staff will share tips and ideas. Topics will include plant selection, flower care, marketing, season extension, and creating a brand in the growing agritourism space.

This event is designed to help both new and experienced producers learn how to grow their businesses and connect with customers through sustainable practices. Participants will also gain insights into building a farm-based experience that attracts visitors.

The tour is supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the North Central Region SARE program under project ENC22-216, as well as a Conservation Collaboration Cooperative Agreement between the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and SDSPA.
