SDSU Grads Begin Journey into Veterinary School with Pride

By Scout Nelson

Seventeen graduates from South Dakota State University’s Class of 2025 recently celebrated their acceptance into veterinary school. The moment was marked with the 14th annual Stethoscope Ceremony, hosted by SDSU and the South Dakota Veterinary Medical Association.

Among these students, six will attend the SDSU Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine, a joint program with the University of Minnesota. These students are Kinsey Carr, Grace Cheeseman, Tara Feucht, Madison Hofer, Sage Mortenson, and Avrie Shefl. They will complete the first two years of their veterinary training at SDSU and the final two years at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

This joint program is managed under SDSU’s Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and highlights the university’s strong focus on multidisciplinary veterinary education.

The remaining students have been accepted into various other respected veterinary schools. Greta Adolf and Anna Moser will attend Kansas State University; Huntyr Atkins and Dani Warner will study at Ross University; Callie Coble has been accepted at the University of Nebraska; and Emma Hansel, Grace Jardon, and Ella Kreber will go to Iowa State University.

Jess Hewitt is headed to Louisiana State University, Sam Stahl to the University of Minnesota, and Taylor Sutton to the Royal Veterinary College.

Each student received a professional stethoscope, given to SDSU and the veterinary association. A mentor chosen by each graduate presented the stethoscope during the event, making the moment more personal and meaningful.

Speakers included Dr. Angela Pillatzki, Provost Dennis Hedge, Dean Joseph Cassady, and Dr. Broc Mauch. Dr. Russ Daly led the event, held at SDSU’s Hobo Day Gallery.
