DEX - South Dakota's Premier Event Venue

The South Dakota State Fair celebrated a significant achievement with the inauguration of the Dakota Events Complex, or DEX, replacing the open-class beef complex lost to a fire in 2020.

The DEX, a state-of-the-art facility spanning 150,000 square feet, is a boon for the youth in agriculture, serving as a premier venue for open-class and 4-H livestock exhibits during the fair. It positions itself to host a wide range of events, from local gatherings to regional and national showcases, including livestock shows, 4-H competitions, FFA conventions, rodeos, concerts, thrill shows, and more.

The DEX, a state-of-the-art facility, showcased its capacity with 1,200 cattle stalls and a large show ring during the 2023 State Fair. Phase 1 of the bleacher seating project will add 2,000 seats, while Phase 2 will increase it to 3,000, enhancing its capacity for diverse events and providing flexibility for non-fair events.

The DEX also prioritizes animal care with its advanced air handling system, robust electrical infrastructure, improved water accessibility, and state-of-the-art paneling and Rock Bottoms. It's a testament to South Dakota's commitment to hosting top-notch events.

Upcoming events at the DEX include:

• South Dakota Rodeo Association Rodeo Finals - 2023 and 2024

• Smashin Cans Barrel Race - 2023 and 2024

• Governor’s Agriculture Summit - 2024

• South Dakota Jr. High Regional Rodeo - 2024

• National Barrel Horse Association State Barrel Race - 2024

• South Dakota Summer Spotlight Livestock Show - 2024

• Red Power Round Up National Show - 2026

These events highlight DEX's versatility and its significant impact on South Dakota.

The DEX's success is attributed to the support of the Governor, the legislature, industry partners, and the state fair community, showcasing the collective efforts towards a common goal.
