NDSU Honors Extension Supporters at Spring Conference

By Scout Nelson

NDSU Extension recognized several supporters for their contributions during the 2026 Spring Conference held April 7–9 in Fargo, North Dakota. The event honored individuals and organizations that have supported Extension programs through leadership, service, and community involvement.

The Friend of Extension award is the highest recognition given to those who support Extension efforts. This year, NDSU Extension honored Dan Wogsland, Perry Turner, and Sarah Lovas as Friends of Extension. The Northarvest Bean Growers Association also received the Friend of the North Dakota Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences award.

Wogsland has supported North Dakota agriculture for more than four decades. His work as a farmer, policymaker, and executive director reflects strong leadership and dedication to improving the state’s agricultural economy.

“Dan’s collaborative leadership, deep policy expertise and unwavering commitment to NDSU agriculture make him exceptionally deserving of the Friend of Extension award,” says Lynette Flage, associate director of NDSU Extension.

Turner served as a county commissioner for ten years and supported statewide agricultural programs. His leadership helped strengthen partnerships and funding support for Extension services.

“For his unwavering support, visionary leadership and meaningful contributions to the success of NDSU Extension, I am honored to present Perry Turner with the Friend of Extension award,” says Flage.

Lovas has worked in agriculture across both private and cooperative sectors. She has supported crop production, nutrient management, and agricultural leadership through her service on the state board.

“Through her leadership, she helped elevate the board’s message, strengthen relationships with decision-makers and promote long-term investments in agriculture that support farmers, rural communities and the state’s economy,” says Flage.

The Northarvest Bean Growers Association has supported Extension programs by providing funding, materials, and training. These efforts help increase the use of beans in local communities and support family and consumer science programs.

Through these recognitions, NDSU Extension highlights the importance of strong partnerships in supporting agriculture and community development.
