South Dakota State University Extension will host a commercial applicator training on Thursday, February 26, in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. The all-day program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST and support licensed pesticide applicators seeking education and recertification.
The training will take place at the AmericInn by Wyndham, located at 312 Island Drive in Fort Pierre. The event is designed for commercial applicators who need to maintain certification and stay current on pesticide safety, regulations, and pest management practices.
Participants are required to bring a government-issued photo ID and their commercial pesticide applicator license for check-in. Attendance at the Category G session is required to complete recertification. Those with license-specific questions are encouraged to contact, SDDAAgronomy@state.sd.us.
The day will begin with attendance check-in at 9:00 a.m., followed by orientation and sessions focused on personal protective equipment and pesticide safety. Morning sessions also include row crop pest management, covering weeds, insects, and plant diseases. These sessions will lead by SDSU Extension specialists with expertise in crop protection and integrated pest management.
Late morning programming focuses on pesticide mitigation strategies under Category G. After a lunch break, participants will have time to meet with vendors and learn about available products and services.
Afternoon sessions will include a regulatory update from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and a climate update from the SDSU Extension State Climatologist. Additional topics cover seed treatment, pest control, and right-of-way pest management. The program will conclude with a sign-out at 3:50 p.m.
The training will lead by SDSU Extension staff and state partners who provide practical, research-based information to support safe and effective pesticide use. The event helps applicators stay informed while meeting state licensing requirements.
Online registration is required by February 19, 2026. Vendor registration is also available and includes booth space and recertification for two attendees. Visit Eventbrite to register.
