Controlling noxious weeds and weeds in row crops is a challenge every year. SDSU Extension has created two online surveys to capture the current climate of weed control in South Dakota. Completion of these surveys will provide a baseline of what are the problem weeds, current control tactics, and potential control tactics in South Dakota. We thank all survey respondents in advance for their time and insight.
Row Crop Weed Survey
The complexity of weed control in row crops is often increased due to herbicide resistance and adverse environmental conditions. While we can assume that kochia and waterhemp are the primary hard-to-control weeds and the control of these weeds are through the application of herbicides, other weeds and control tactics are likely present and utilized throughout the state, respectively. False assumptions about row crop weed control in South Dakota could result in the development of ineffective control programs. Utilization of different crop rotations and control tactics can influence weed control.
