This week, the SDSU Extension Crop Hour series will focus on weed management, with experts providing valuable insights on effective strategies for controlling weeds in South Dakota. Key topics include the use of preemergence herbicides, ESA (Endangered Species Act) mitigations, and essential weed control techniques.
Crop Hour, held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from January 7 to February 27, 2025, is designed to equip South Dakota producers with the knowledge they need for successful crop management.
Sessions are conducted at 10:00 a.m. CST (9:00 a.m. MT) and cover a range of topics throughout the season. In addition to weed management, other sessions will address soils and water, integrated pest management (IPM) for insects, plant diseases and fungicides, specialty crops, forage production, climate impact, business management, and regenerative agriculture.
The SDSU Extension agronomy team leads these free webinars, and participants can earn Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) if they are Certified Crop Advisers. Online registration is required to participate.
For more information, interested producers can reach out to Connie Strunk, SDSU Extension Plant Pathology Field Specialist, or Sara Bauder, SDSU Extension Forage Field Specialist. This week’s Crop Hour provides essential knowledge to help farmers improve weed control, manage herbicide applications effectively, and enhance crop productivity for a successful season.
