South Dakota State University Extension 4-H has recently celebrated the hard work and achievements of sixty of its members by awarding them the 2024 Premier Exhibitor Award. This prestigious recognition is divided into categories including large animals, small animals/dairy, horses, and dogs, each requiring specific skills and knowledge in animal care and management.
Tim Tanner, the State 4-H Program Director at SDSU Extension, emphasized the significance of these awards as the highest honor for animal projects within the South Dakota 4-H program. He praised the awardees for their dedication to research-based knowledge, work ethic, and responsible animal care, preparing them for well-rounded futures.
The Premier Exhibitor Awards assess participants based on their combined scores from showmanship, skill-a-thon, and specific animal show class results, whether performance or market/breeding oriented. Winners in each project area and age division receive rewards ranging from banners and belt buckles to cash prizes, acknowledging the top five placers in the small and large animal categories.
Sami Nordmann, the State 4-H Livestock Program Manager, expressed her excitement about the knowledge and experience these young members gain through their projects. She highlighted the awards as not just a recognition but also as an encouragement for these young individuals to continue growing in their respective project areas and to inspire others with their passion and hard work.
The ceremony not only celebrated individual achievements but also showcased the ongoing commitment of SDSU Extension 4-H to foster educational opportunities that help youth develop into capable and knowledgeable adults.
Through such initiatives, SDSU Extension 4-H aims to continually support the growth and development of its members, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their future endeavors and contribute positively to their communities.
