At the 2023 National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals conference, South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension 4-H professionals stood out for their significant contributions to youth development. The conference, held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, saw participation from about 800 professionals nationwide.
SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Program Advisors Sonia Mack, Jodi Loehrer, Erin McGlumphy, Jennifer Ringkob, and Sara Koepke were among those who attended the 77th annual conference. They, along with Debra Lessman and Lauren Sankey, received accolades for their exemplary teamwork and leadership in youth programs.
Key recognitions included the North Central Region Award in Excellence in Teamwork for the 4-H DASH program and the Greg Yost Memorial Youth in Leadership Award for the 4-H Bike Rodeo and Safety program, received by Koepke.
Caroline Hansen was honored with the Achievement in Service Award for her work in Davison and Hanson Counties, and Jennifer Ringkob earned the Distinguished Service Award.
This year's conference theme, "Building Foundations: Stronger Than Steel," resonated with the robust contributions of the SDSU team. Koepke and Mack, selected as session presenters, highlighted SDSU Extension 4-H Workforce Outcome Team online courses, focusing on career exploration and potential unlocking for youth.
The National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals is a global platform for professionals to exchange innovative educational methods and ideas. SDSU Extension 4-H Program Director Tim Tanner praised the South Dakota team's national recognition for their creative and effective youth engagement programs.
