South Dakota Corn and Soybean Crops Progressing on Target



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 18% very short, 39% short, 41% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 18% very short, 38% short, 42% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Corn condition rated 7% very poor, 15% poor, 30% fair, 41% good, and 7% excellent. Corn silking was 96%, near 100% last year and 98% for the five-year average. Dough was 71%, behind 79% last year, and near 73% average. Dented was 16%, behind 27% last year and 22% average.

Soybean condition rated 3% very poor, 12% poor, 30% fair, 49% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 86%, behind 93% last year, and equal to average. Dropping leaves was 1%, behind 13% last year and 7% average.

Winter wheat harvested was 97%, near 100% last year and 95% average.

Spring wheat harvested was 84%, behind 93% last year, but near 80% average.

Oats harvested was 88%, behind 94% last year, and near 89% average.

Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 12% poor, 45% fair, 40% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum headed was 85%, behind 91% last year, and near 88% average. Coloring was 14%, behind 27% last year and 26% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 17% very poor, 32% poor, 30% fair, 20% good, and 1% excellent.
