South Dakota Mines Student Organizations Recognized

The South Dakota Board of Regents recognized three South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SD MINES) student organizations for outstanding academic, community, and organizational work. The Board acknowledges and awards student groups from all six South Dakota public universities throughout the year.

The SD MINES Award for Academic Excellence was presented to the Society of Physics Students (SPS). Members of SPS have made countless efforts to gain recognition on campus by sponsoring departmental socials, volunteering for campus outreach efforts, such as Go-to-Mines and Career days, hosting fundraisers, and physics demos for the general public, including Comic Con. Faculty members actively seek SPS members with opportunities to work on research and outreach-related projects, directly and indirectly, relating to SPS and Physics.

The Circle K International received the SD MINES Award for Community Service. Circle K International is a service organization formed to help the community through various service projects. It is part of an umbrella of organizations led by Kiwanis International. Circle K International also aims to build fellowship and create leaders within the membership.

Mine Rescue earned the SD MINES Award for Organizational Leadership. Mine Rescue is dedicated to educating students about the importance of mine rescue teams and safety through hands-on training in leadership, teamwork, and emergency management. They travel across the country to compete in mine rescue competitions, network with industry professionals, and tour several mines and mills.
