Celebrating excellence in SD pork production 2023

By Scout Nelson

The 55th annual South Dakota Pork Congress, held in Sioux Falls on January 10, 2024, was a day of recognition for individuals who have significantly contributed to the state's swine industry.

Ingris Rivas, Cameron Wipf, and Seth Holmstrom were named the 2023 South Dakota Master Pork Producers for their excellence in swine production.

Ingris Rivas, a notable figure at Fox Run near Parker, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication. Originally from Honduras, Rivas has been a pivotal part of the pork industry for 17 years, managing a 5,800-sow complex with remarkable success.

Her journey from a swine technician to a production supervisor highlights her commitment and passion for pork production.

Cameron Wipf leads the Spink Colony operation in Frankfurt, overseeing a comprehensive farrow-to-finish and wean-finish operation.

His effective team management and innovative approach to piglet care and specialty market sales have significantly contributed to the operation's success.

Seth Holmstrom manages Elm Valley near Conde, supervising a 6,000-sow complex with a focus on efficiency and sustainability.

His leadership extends beyond the barns, serving his community as a volunteer firefighter. Elm Valley's partnership with Hutterville Colony exemplifies a collaborative effort in feed management and environmental sustainability.

These leaders not only excel in their field but also inspire others with their dedication to both pigs and people. Their achievements underscore the importance of innovation, teamwork, and community involvement in the advancement of South Dakota's swine industry.
